Sunday's Tag: The Christmas Tag 2014

Sunday, December 07, 2014

Hello ladies,
this year I'm already full of Christmas spirit and I'm itching to put up our tree, so what better why to celebrate the end of the first Blogmas week than to get a bit festive up in here, and do the Christmas Tag.
I first saw this tag on Milk Bubble Tea at the beginning of November and since then a bunch of bothers loggers have done it as well.
I did a different Christmas Tag last year, so if you're interested in seeing that one, just click here.

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
I have to admit that I'm not that crazy about Christmas movies, but I think you can't go wrong with all Home Alone movies and Elf. But my all time favourite one is, hands down, the Holiday. Every year I end the Christmas Day by watching it and shedding a tear or two.

2. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Always on Christmas morning and I really like it that way. I know that a few of my friends open their presents on Christmas Eve, but somehow I feel like it's more magical to open them on Christmas morning although you have to wait all night to see what's in them.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
I instantly knew what my least favourite one is (catching my Mum wrapping the presents), but I had to think about my favourite one for quite some time cause I love everything about Christmas.
But then I thought of something I absolutely loved doing when I was younger;
my Granddad & Grandma had their Christmas tree on the top of a closet and they always had a lot of chocolates on it. Since I was too small to reach the tree, I used to convince my Dad to carry me on his shoulders so I could sneak into their room and steal the chocolates. My Granddad always pretended that I wasn't allowed to steal them, and sometimes he actually pretended to be asleep when I walked into the room so that I was even more intrigued to do it and I even came up with a plan on when it was the perfect time to steal the chocolates. Then I would very proudly show him all the chocolates that I managed to steal from him.

4. Favourite festive food?
Potica. All potica. Only potica.
This is a typical Slovenian dish (cake?) with walnut filling and my Mum makes the best one. I know that I'm partial about saying this, since she's my Mum, but everyone that has tried her Potica, can't get enough of it. She always makes A LOT of filling, & it always tastes so rich and not dry at all.
I'm drooling just writing this, I can't wait to get my hands on it again.

5. Favourite Christmas gift?
Honestly, almost every Christmas gift was my favourite one. I used to be so surprised that I always got exactly those things that I asked Santa for.
I remember that one year I really wanted a Wovimami (not sure how this is named in English, but it looks like this) and when I was writing my letter to Santa I wrote down that he will have to buy it in another country since it wasn't available here in Slovenia yet. I didn't think I would actually get it, but I did! Years later my parents told me that they had to go to Austria to buy it for me.
I actually still have it and it still works. I'm a sentimental hoarder, what else can I say.

6. Favourite Christmas scent?
The smell of Mulled wine and all those Yankee Candles Christmas scents that I have way too many off. I especially like the Sugared Apple, Cherries on the Snow, Sparkling Cinnamon and Red Apple Wreath.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Is having a lot of family time a tradition? We also have a Christmas Eve dinner and then we either go to a midnight mass that is actually at 10 pm in a nearby town, or I go for a few cups of a midnight mulled wine with my friends. We also put all of our presents under the tree when my sister falls asleep and I tend to take a few minutes to stare at them before going to bed.

8. What tops your tree?
A star that compliments that year colour scheme. & I always love to be the one that puts it up there on the top.

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
I don't actually remember ever wanting something so crazy and I was lucky enough to always get the things that were on my wish list, but I know that I always wanted a sibling (I was an only child until I was 12) and a dog. Does this count even tough I eventually got both, just not for Christmas?

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?
Maybe this will sound stupid, but I absolutely love that special warm feeling I get around Christmas. I love buying all the presents for my loved ones (although I always get very stressed about it), all the excitement about opening the presents and seeing the reaction of others when they open theirs, and spending time with my family being all snuggled up on my Grandma's bed.
Of course, we can't forget about Potica.

I tag all of you, because I want to read as many Christmas tags I possibly can.
