Autumn Picks 2014; Nail Polishes

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Hello ladies,
how was you first official day of Autumn? We had amazing weather today, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a sky without a single cloud in the morning.

I wasn't planning on doing another ''seasonal series'' at first, but when I was looking back to my picks from last Autumn, I noticed I had quite a few new favourites or just old ones that I haven't mentioned last year.
I decided to kick it off with one of my current favourite beauty items; nail polishes. I don't know why, but as soon as I started wearing dark colours again, I got this desire to paint my nails every other day. I guess I really love my darker shades.
If you're interested, you can check out my last year picks here.

1. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in So Much Fawn (260): I don't know why it looks kinda orange on the photo below, because it's a brownish dusky pink shade. It reminds me a bit of the Essence English Rose, but that one's  darker.
I currently own three shades from this range and I really like them. They have a great brush, dry fast, last for about 5 days and are quickly opaque; 2 coats for this shade.

2. Essie Angora Cardi: Although it's nothing that special about this shade, I have a slight addiction to it. For some reason I absolutely love how it looks on my nails and everything else is worthy of my love as well; big brush, lasts for a whole week, dries quickly, looks glossy. This one is opaque in just 1 coat.
It's almost identical to Maybelline Super Stay Forever Strong 7 days in 255 Mauve on; Maybeline one is a bit darker and a bit more purple.

3. Essie Chinchilly: A cult classic shade that was on my WL for ages. Shades like this one are my crack in the colder months. I do however find that the formula of this one is more runny and needs 2 to 3 coats to be completely opaque.

4. Rimmel Salon Pro in Urban purple: I still can't believe I haven't bought more shades from this range. These are really cheap, but the quality is very similar to the Essie ones. The shade itself also reminds me of Bahama Mama, but it's lighter and has more red tones in it. Opaque in 1 coat.
It's a lot darker and less red than it looks on swatches (Looks like I really messed up with the settings on my camera this time).

5. Essie Truth or Flare: Although this shade was a part of their Spring collection, I can see myself wearing it a lot more in the colder months. It's not a typical ''me'' shade, but it has some grey undertones to it and I really like that. It needs 2 coats.

Swatches are in the same order than the polishes mentioned. All of them, except the first and forth one, are true to its colour.

6. Max Factor Max Effect mini nail polish in 43 Odyssey Blue: These mini Max Factor polishes are like a hidden gem. I really like them because you can build them up to be fully opaque, you can wear them on top of other polishes, or just wear them sheered out and they'll always look great.
This one reminds me of a night sky, because it's so sparkly and it looks amazing when the sun hits it.

7. Look by Bipa Special Effect in nr. 6 Metallic Violet: This one is really interesting. When you look at it, it just looks like a metallic purple shade, but it actually has some green and blue tones in it.
It needs 3 coats and the brush is quite thin, but the shade prevails over this.

8. Deborah Pret a Porter nail enamel in 35 Knock out Violet: Another extremely shimmery dark purple shade. This one is has some serious multicoloured glitters in it, but the glitters are really, really fine. It need 2 to 3 coats.

9. KIKO Mirror nail lacquer in 629: I actually reviewed this one last September (here) and I mentioned how I felt like this shade was a bit much for a full manicure. I definitely don't agree with my past self any more. I mean, look how metallic it looks, it's like having liquid rose gold/coppery nails.
It can be opaque with 1 coat, but as I mentioned in the review, you have to be really careful because it can get very streaky.

10. Essie Decadent Dish: I'm currently wearing this one for the first time, but I had to include it because I have a feeling I'll be wearing it A LOT.
It reminds me of one of my all time favourite polishes; O.P.I Meet me on the star ferry but it's much darker and more brown. It does still have some red tones to it that really come forward when the light hits it. You'll need 2 coats for this one.

Swatches are again in the same order, all of the shade look true to the colour, except 6 and 8 are a bit darker in real life.

What's your favourite nail polish for Autumn? Have you already made the ''switch''?

  12. Chinchilly je tudi meni eden izmed ljubših. Na splošno so mi za jesen super rjavkasti, temno rdeči in temno zeleni odtenki. Letos sta se jim pa še bela in črna barva pridružila. :)
