Top Picks for Spring: Lipsticks

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

Hello ladies,
I'm finally here with the last edition of my Top Picks for Spring and we're gonna talk about lipsticks.
If you're interested, I also did a post like this on my favourite Autumn  and Summer lipsticks.

I tried to narrow them down as much as I could, and I also tried to pick up those that I really like, but maybe don't talk about as often.
So here are my top five lipsticks for this Spring.

1. Essence Longlasting lipstick in Coral Calling (01): I think I already mentioned that I don't really like orange shades on me, but I really love this one, since even though it has some orange undertone to it, it comes off as a lovely coral shade on my lips. This is one of my go-to lipsticks on days when I don't want to put any effort in doing my eye makeup, but still want to look put together and fresh.
In my opinion, it instantly brightens up your face and I think it'll look gorgeous in the Summer as well.
I also love the formula of these lipsticks, they actually are quite long-wearing, but they don't dry up your lips and give a nice shiny, almost glossy look.

2. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine hydrating colour lipshine in Saga (79): This one was actually featured in my favourite Summer lipsticks and I already talked about it a few times, but I just couldn't pass it by.
It's probably my all time favourite lipstick and I'm constantly wearing it in these warmer months. It also has some coral tones in it, but it's more on the nude-ish/pinky side. As the name would suggest, it's very hydrating and glossy, but it does leave a nice, subtle stain after it washes off. No need to say how stunning and classy the packaging looks, right?
I think that this shade is a little bit more bright and fun than the classic nude, but it still goes with everything and is perfect for those natural, every day looks.

3. KIKO Makeup Milano Smart lipstick in Watermelon (911): I have to admit that I kinda forgot about this one and I re-discovered it a few months back, but I'm extremely glad that I did.
Last August I did a full review on this lipstick and another shade that I have from this range, and you can read that here.
But I just love how effortless this lipstick is to apply & wear, and as I mentioned in that review, it really reminds me of the Revlon Lip butters, but this one is a tad more glossy. I'm also a big fan of this colour.

4. L'oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Romy (102): Technically, this is not a lipstick but we're just gonna roll with it.
The first thing that I like about this one, is the packaging and the applicator. Especially the applicator, as it dispenses just the right amount of product and fits nicely onto my lips.
Other than that, the product itself is interesting too, it's like a hybrid between a gloss and a stain, which means that it's semi long-wearing and hydrating, but luckily not sticky. It also feels like you're not wearing anything on the lips.
The only thing that bothers me a little bit, is that they're quite sheer and you have to build them up, but even then you don't get the same colour as shown in the tube. At least I don't; on me it looks like my natural lip colour, just more vibrant and glossier.

5. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist (07): My most recent favourite lip product. This little thing is beyond impressive and if you don't already own a shade from this range, you need to get it NOW.
It has a matte finish, which I absolutely adore (most times). As you can probably tell, when I was taking this photos, my lips were still chapped from that terrible cold I had, and this one really doesn't get along with chapped lips. I also wish they would come out with some less vibrant shades, but other than that, I'm in love.
The application, at least with this shade, is a piece of cake; it goes on smoothly and it's pigmented enough even with one swipe. It has a pleasant scent and doesn't feel uncomfortable on the lips.
When I wore it for the first time, I was constantly checking in the mirror to see when it'll start to fade, but I was shocked to see that it was still completely intact after 7h when I removed my makeup. Eating and drinking included, of course.
If this isn't impressive, than I don't know what is.

So there you have it, my top 5 Spring lipsticks. I hope you enjoyed reading this mini Spring series and that you found some new products to try.

Have you tried any of these lipsticks? What are your favourite Spring shades?
