Top picks for Spring: Nail polishes

Tuesday, April 08, 2014

Helloooo,
guess who's back? Me, me, me.
If you don't follow me on Twitter you won't know that I had extremely red eyes for the past two weeks and I finally went to the doctor this past week to discover that I have some sort of an eye infection. Now I'm not allowed to wear contacts and any eye makeup for probably the next two weeks. I decided to take a week off since I wasn't really in the mood to blog and since a lot of posts I was planning on doing included eye makeup.
But I re-arranged my blogging schedule and now I'm back.
Update over, let's jump into today's topic.

Since I'm one of those people who colour coordinate their nail polishes according to seasons, I decided to show you my top 10 Spring nail polishes. Some of them are new ones, some of them are oldies but goodies and a few of them sneak into the Summer ''stash'' as well.
In Autumn I also showed you my top nail polishes and you can see them here, I also did the same thing for lipsticks and blushes here
Let me know if you would like to see my top lipsticks & blushes for Spring as well.

1. Essie Fiji: One of the most talked about Essie shade. It's a gorgeous milky pink shade that looks amazing on the nails. I instantly feel more elegant and sophisticated whenever I'm wearing it. For me, the formula and the brush of Essie nail polishes is superb and they last the longest on my nails. I prefer to apply 2-3 coats of this one, as I like it to be a little bit more opaque.

2.  Essence Rossy in love (TE Love letters): I tried not to include polishes from limited collection, but I just had to include this one. I don't know what is it about this shade that makes me love it so much. It's just the perfect Barbie pink shade. I prefer to apply 2 coats of this one as well. You can see it in action here.

3. Catrice Oyster& Champagne (Crushed Crystals): This one totally changed my opinion about ''liquid sand'' nail polishes. It's just breathtaking and I want to wear it all the time. It looks amazing with or without a top coat. Again, I normally use 2 coats.

4. Essie Go Ginza: Another Essie shade, but this one is opaque in 1 coat. It's a gorgeous pastel lilac shade that just screams Spring to me.

5. Maybelline Lilac charm (Forever strong pro): Another lilac shade, but quite darker than the previous one. This one has a smaller brush of the first bunch but it's opaque in 1 coat. The formula is great and it's almost as long-lasting as the Essie ones. Lilac charm is one of my most worn nail polishes from last year.

Here are the swatches; in the same order as mentioned above.

6. KIKO 359: KIKO nail varnishes are just amazing for their price; they're opaque in 1 coat, have a nice brush and last 3-4 days. The only problem I have with this one is that the application can get a bit streaky if you're not careful. I'm usually not a big fan of orange shades, but I love this creamy, peachy shade. It also looks amazing with a tan and it was actually already featured in my blog here.
We definitely need a KIKO store in Slovenia!

7. Bourjois 25 (10 days no chip): By now you probably noticed that I gravitate toward more pastel shades in the Spring and I tend to save those more bright & vibrant colours for Summer, but this one from Bourjois is a nice mixture of both; a muted coral shade. I quite like these nail polishes from Bourjois, I only wish the brush was a little bit longer. Unfortunately is not ''10 days chip free'', it lasts good 4 days on me, but it is opaque in 1 coat and it dries quickly.

8. Bourjois Ciel mon vernis 09 (So laque glossy): This one was featured in my March haul and I already wore it twice, which for me is a lot. It has a smaller brush, needs 2-3 coats and last 3 days on me, but I'm obsessed with this baby blue colour. When it's on your nails, it actually has a slight minty undertone which I wasn't expecting, but I definitely don't mind.

9. Maybelline Mint for life (Super stay gel): A beauty bloggers favourite from last year. I think that almost every beauty blogger was talking about this nail polish and I definitely see why. Unfortunately this is not available in Slovenia, but if you see it online or abroad, buy it immediately!
It's the most wonderful minty shade that only needs 1 coat and the formula is, dare I say it, even better than the Essie one. It has a very wide brush, it looks very glossy without a top coat and survives 7 days without any chips.
I wore it to death last Summer and I know that I'll use it loads again in the next few months. I definitely regret not buying more shades when I had a chance.

10. NYX Algea (Girls): Another unusual shade for me. I tend to stay away from those bright green shades because I don't think they look good on me, but I like this one because it's darker and not so in-your-face. It has a very thin brush, which I'm not a big fan of, and you also need 2 coats, but I can deal with that since I like the colour.

And here are the second swatches.

And some more swatches; all ten of them.

What are your favourite shades in the Spring time? Would you like to see my top pick for blushes and lipsticks as well? Let me know.
