Review: Illamasqua Sculpting Powder Duo

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

Hello ladies, today I'll be reviewing one of my current favourite make-up items in my collection; Illamasqua Sculpting Powder Duo.
I think I mentioned in one of my previous posts how I started contouring last year and was using the E. L. F. blush&bronzer duo, and how I wasn't really a big fan of highlighters, which as you know, has recently changed.
I first spotted this duo in the Illamasqua Selfish Christmas collection preview and ever since then it was in the back of my mind. A month or so ago I was browsing the Illamasqua counter in Müller debating whether or not I should get their Hollow cream pigment and I saw this Sculpting duo. It was even more beautiful in real life than in pictures, so of course I had to get it.

The packaging itself is typical Illamasqua packaging and compared to their blushes, it's quite more bulky. What I like about Illamasqua packaging is the fact that you don't get a brush with it, because I really dislike those brushes that come with make-up products and they just take extra space. I also really like that this one, not like their blushes, has a big mirror included, which always comes in handy.
2x3g / 0.1 OZ retails for around 34€ in Müller and for £26 / 31, 02€ on Illamasqua website.

Sculpting duo comes with two shades; Lumos which is a shimmery champagne shade for highlighting and Heliopolis which is a natural, matte, light brow shade for contouring.
Compared to Hollow, Helipolis is way less ashy and not so cool-toned so you can also use it to warm up your face and not just as a contour shade.
Even though Lumos is quite shimmery, it somehow still manages to look natural and appropriate for daytime; it doesn't make you look shiny like a disco ball, but it gives you that healthy-looking glow and helps to lift up your cheeks.

The pigmentations is just perfect and they last all day on my skin. Both shades are very opaque, finely milled and buttery soft. I absolutely love the fact that with one swipe you get just the right amount to create a natural look, but at the same time you can build them up effortlessly, if you want more striking contour and highlight.
For every day I like to use an angled brush to apply both shades, but if I want a more define contour, I like to use the UBU Bronze Bombshell Bronzer and Shimmer Brush since it's very narrow and fits right into the hollows of your cheeks.
I also like to use this duo on my eyes; Lumos as an all over the lid shade and Helipolis in my crease. You just can't go wrong with this combination, since they complement each other perfectly.

All in all, I couldn't be happier with this product and I'm glad that I decided to buy it because I've been using it almost every day ever since I got it. I know that the price is quite high, but you really get what you pay for with this one.

Have you tried the Sculpting duo? Share your thoughts.
